2026 Hurricane Season: A Calmer Forecast, But Preparation Still Matters

The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June 1 through November 30. NOAA is forecasting a below-normal season, with 8 to 14 named storms, 3 to 6 hurricanes, and 1 to 3 major hurricanes expected. NOAA also noted a 55% chance of a below-normal season, largely influenced by the anticipated development of El Niño, which can create wind patterns that limit Atlantic storm formation. (NOAA)

That said, Southwest Florida knows better than most that it only takes one storm to make preparation essential. Now is the time to review insurance policies, confirm vendor contacts, test generators, check shutters, trim landscaping where needed, and make sure your home watch or property management plans are ready before the tropics get busy.
